Search continues for man who tried abducting girl

Police: Driver of Chevrolet Impala tries snatching girl near Boys & Girls Club in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Police continue to look for the man who tried abducting a 9-year-old girl in Fort Lauderdale on Monday afternoon.

The girl was on her way to summer camp at the Boys & Girls Club when a man grabbed her and threw her in to his car, police said. When he tried driving away, the girl got out of the car and ran.

"It makes me feel very unsafe for the kids," said Floyd Davis.

"They got the cameras and it's a good place to go, but they need more security," said Rose Gardner.

The girl described the man as light skinned. He is also described as approximately 5 foot 7 inches, weighing approximately 145 pounds. He is reported to have a full beard and was last seen wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark green pants.

Police said he was driving a newer-model, white, 4-door Chevy Impala.

Since the attempted abduction, police have increased patrols in the area.

Detectives expect to have a sketch of the suspect sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone with information should call Fort Lauderdale police at 954-828-5964 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
