Wrong-way driver tweeted '2 drunk 2 care' before crash

Kaitlyn Ferrante, Marisa Catronio killed

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The driver who hit another car head on tweeted "2 drunk 2 care" hours before a wrong-way crash on the Sawgrass Expressway early Sunday morning.

Kayla Mendoza was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes when she hit another car head on about 1:45 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash killed 21-year-old Marisa Catronio (left), whose funeral was held Friday.

The other car's driver, 21-year-old Kaitlyn Ferrante, died Thursday morning, her family's latest loss. Her stepfather, Richard Wentz, a first responder on 9/11, died from cancer in May.

Mendoza, 20, suffered serious injuries. At 11:03 p.m. Saturday, almost three hours before the crash, she tweeted, "2 drunk 2 care."

In the weeks leading up to the crash, she made other references to marijuana and drinking on her Twitter account, which was verified by an attorney representing Ferrante's family.

Charges in the case are pending.
