LAUDERHILL, Fla. – One person is being treated at the hospital after being shot in Lauderhill.
The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. at a home in the 5300 block of Northwest 24th Court near Northwest 52nd Avenue.
Neighbors say they heard several gunshots.
"I've never seen anybody get shot before. It was heartbreaking for me," said Yahaira Ponce, who lives in the neighborhood. "We all thought it was fireworks."
Police went door to door to talk to witnesses and gather evidence. At one point, with guns drawn, cops moved in on one home to make sure the shooter wasn't hiding inside.
The victim has not been identified at this time. Police said the victim underwent surgery Wednesday morning and is listed in critical condition.
