Shorter Spirit flight delays reported at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Int'l Airport

Some travelers said flights were running half-hour late

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Travelers at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport are experiencing shorter wait times after a voluntary safety check on Spirit Airlines planes delayed hundreds of customers Wednesday night.

By Thursday evening, terminal 4 at FLL was relatively quiet. Spirit Airline flights, many of which had been delayed and canceled 24 hours earlier, were mostly running on schedule.

Some travelers said their flights were running a half-hour late.

"It's not bad at all. It's just 30 minutes," said one traveler.

Traveler Matt Zajac, waiting for a flight to Atlantic City, said he was one of the few whose itinerary still seemed to be suffering.

"We came here and before, we were backed up an hour, two hours, and now possibly 11 o'clock we're going out. Hopefully," Zajac said.

Hundreds of flights were canceled and delayed Wednesday night after the airline said they were prompted to make emergency checks on their fleet of planes following an engine failure last week.
