Soldier comes home, surprises kids

Corey Humphrey surprises son, daughter at their schools

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ A member of the U.S. Army surprised his son and daughter at school on Monday after returning home to South Florida from a nine-month deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Staff SergeantĀ Corey Humphrey made his first stop at Charter School of Excellence in Fort Lauderdale, where his 7-year-old son CJ attends.

CJ was in the middle of a second grade lesson when he was told not to turn around. He was so obedient that he kept facing forward -- even when his father tapped him on the shoulder.

With his teacher's permission, he finally looked, and after a moment of disbelief, jumped into his father's arms. CJ said he looked forward to playing Wii with his dad.

CJ accompanied his dad to visit 4-year-old Courtney at her daycare. Humphrey was afraid that after nine months she wouldn't know who he was.

He was wrong. Courtney ran into her dad's arms and didn't let go.

Humphrey, a 16-year veteran of the Army and member of the 317th Calvary Division, is a helicopter mechanic stationed in Savannah, Ga.
