Kwamayne Davis arrested in Cooper City home burglary

16-year-old girl home alone when break-in occurred

COOPER CITY, Fla. – Deputies have arrested a man accused of trying to break into a home while a teenage girl was home alone.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said Kwamayne Davis, 20, had gloves and burglary tools with him as he knocked on a door in a quiet Cooper City neighborhood. He was holding an envelope and posing as a delivery man.

Deputies said a 16-year-old girl was home at the time but she didn't answer the door.

"Because there was no delivery truck and no official vehicle, she was immediately suspicious of him," BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said. "About 15 minutes later she realized someone was breaking into the home. She heard a window smash. She ran down stairs and saw as the perpetrator was trying to get in through the window."

The girl's father told Local 10's Todd Tongen that his daughter actually slipped out a second floor window when the intruder broke the glass and then had to hide behind some bushes.

Deputies said Davis may be involved in a similar burglary in the same area last week.
