SUV rolls over guardrail on I-95 onto street below

41-year-old woman taken to Ryder Trauma Center in serious condition

MIAMI – A woman is in critical condition after her car went over the guardrail on I-95 and landed upside down on the street below Thursday morning.

The 41-year-old was driving a Ford Explorer in the northbound lanes when it went off the side of the interstate, landing on NW 17th Street and 5th Avenue. She was taken to Ryder Trauma Center in serious condition. She was the only person in the car.

It appears the SUV went over the top of the guardrail, according to Lt. Ignatius Carroll of Miami Fire Rescue. The guardrail was not damaged and traffic continued to move freely on the interstate.

A witness says the driver was trying to avoid hitting a box on the road when it happened.
