Teen injured in crash 2 years ago completes 5k race

Eric Quinn crushed by car that careened into bus stop

MIAMI – Two years ago, Eric Quinn was crushed by a car that careened into the bus stop where he was waiting with a group of people. Doctors feared he wouldn't walk again.

Not only has he defied the odds, but this week Quinn completed a 5k race for breast cancer at Dr. Michael Krop Senior High.

"I kept running," he said. "Kept breathing, I just kept going."

Quinn was one of seven people struck by a car while waiting at a bus bench outside a Miami Gardens CVS in October 2012. One of the victims died.

Several good Samaritans rushed to the scene to help. They are credited with helping save Quinn's life after they lifted the car off him. The driver was arrested.

In the last year since his release from the hospital, Quinn has become an athletic trainer for the junior varsity football team at Krop. He credits his family, teachers and family for his strength.

"And the whole Michael Krop family, because they really are my family, and I really love them and they really encourage me," he said. "I thank God I'm alive."
