Dozens of teens got to strut their stuff on the red carpet at the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale Friday night. "A Prom to Remember" gives teens affected by cancer a chance to experience the high school tradition many of them miss because of treatment.

Local 10's MJ Acosta is used to getting dressed up and heading out on the red carpet. She's chatted up celebrities before the Latin Billboard Awards and stood with cheering fans outside Taylor Swift's concert at the American Airlines Arena.

But her assignment on Friday night -- "A Prom to Remember" -- helped her see a different kind of inspiration on the red carpet.

The annual event invites dozens of teens who have been affected by cancer to experience the dance many of them miss because of their treatments. Everything from limousines and corsages to formal wear and the red carpet entrance are paid for by generous donors.

The 2013 prom was held at the Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale.

MJ scored an invite with Alan, an 18-year old in remission.
