Trial begins for man accused of orchestrating gang rape at Hollywood home

Jayvon Woolfork, 20, faces up to life in prison, if convicted

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The trial began Tuesday for a 20-year-old man accused of orchestrating a November 2013 gang rape of a teenage girl at his Hollywood home.

Jayvon Woolfork previously rejected a plea deal from the state, offering him 15 years in prison.

Woolfork claims the state has no evidence against him and told a Broward County judge that he wanted a trial.

Two men and two 17-year-old girls accepted plea deals in the case and received sentences of two to four years in prison.

Police said the group lured the victim to Woolfork's home, then beat and raped her while recording the incident.

"They kept telling me that I needed to have sex with Jayvon, (and) that if I didn't have sex with Jayvon then they were going to keep hitting me," the victim told a jury Tuesday.

Woolfork lashed out during a court hearing last month, telling the judge, "Where's the DNA at? What evidence do you have?"

He also became outraged after prosecutor Maria Schneider said Woolfork gave a statement, admitting that he had intercourse with the victim.

"Hold on now, she said she was raped," Woolfork responded. "Where's the evidence showing that she was raped? Where's that evidence at?"

But Woolfork was quiet during the start of the trial, shifting uncomfortably in his seat at times.

Woolfork faces up to life in prison if he is convicted.
