Volunteers fix up WWII vet's home

Sam Patterson has lived in Miami home since 1960s

MIAMI – Volunteers fixed up a World War II veteran's home Tuesday.

Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade partnered with the Bank of America Charitable Foundation and the Miami Dolphins Foundation to rehabilitate 93-year-old Sam Patterson's home at 6845 SW 26th Terrace. They scraped rust off his railings and painted the house.

"I feel guilty," said Patterson. "There's so many deserving people."

Volunteers also repaired the roof, modified the bathroom, made kitchen repairs, and landscaped.

"The homeowner here had been living here since the house was built in the 60s, so it's still the original kitchen, the original bath," said Curtis Brock, a volunteer. "His reaction was mostly you got to be kidding me."

"All this is really appreciated," added Patterson. "It's remarkable what they're doing."
