Windshield cracks during AA flight from Miami

American Airlines Flight 160 was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday

ORLANDO, Fla. – An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after taking off from Miami International Airport Tuesday night because of reports of a cracked windshield.

Flight 160 was heading to Boston's Logan International Airport when the captain reported a crack in a cockpit window. Crews declared an emergency and landed the plane in Orlando.

The Boeing 757 had 150 passengers and six crew members on board, according to an airline spokesperson. It had taken off from Miami at 8:40 p.m.

The crack was said to have happened once the plane reached cruising altitude. It affected an exterior window of the double-paned cockpit. As of early Wednesday, the size of the crack was still unclear.

Tim Kelley of New England Cable News was on the flight and posted about the experience on his blog.

Early reports from the airline suggested the windshield would be replaced in Orlando, but according to the FAA website, passengers boarded a different plane which arrived in Boston shortly before 2:30 a.m.
