Police say five people were taken to the hospital after a truck slammed into a car with a family of four inside, including a baby.
The incident happened around 5:50 p.m. Sunday in Cooper City.
A Ford F-250 smashed into a red Hyundai with a family of four inside, including an 18-month-old boy that was in a rear car seat.
The pickup hit a tree afterwards and crashed through a wooden fence, stopping within inches of a house on the property with the owners inside.
A resident in the area who witnessed the incident said a Miramar police officer happened to be driving on the same road. The witness said the driver of the pickup seemed intoxicated.
Police said the driver was evaluated at the scene and was detained.
Five people who were hurt in the incident were taken to local medical clinics with non-life-threatening injuries.
