Woman accused of kidnapping 2-year-old daughter arrested in Palatka, FBI says

Girl's father says Megan Everett took daughter from Sunrise home in May 2014

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A South Florida woman accused of kidnapping her 2-year-old daughter in 2014 has been arrested in north Florida, the FBI said Monday.

FBI spokesman Jim Marshall said Megan Everett, 23, was taken into custody without incident Monday morning in Palatka, about 30 miles southwest of St. Augustine.

Robert Baumann told Local 10 News that Everett kidnapped their daughter, Lilly, from his Sunrise home during an ongoing custody battle in May 2014.

"When I first heard that it's possible that they found her, I was shocked," Baumann said Monday.

Marshall said an anonymous tip led investigators to Everett after the abduction was featured Sunday on CNN's "The Hunt" with John Walsh.

The FBI said the girl was in protective custody until her father could arrive.

Everett is being held by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and is expected to be returned to Broward County.

Baumann said he felt like he won the lottery after learning that his daughter was safe.
