Woman to give out 'obesity letter' on Halloween

North Dakota woman says she needs to send message to parents

FARGO, N.D. – Children wanting a lecture instead of candy this Halloween should head to North Dakota.

It's there, in a neighborhood of Fargo, that a woman plans on giving would-be trick-or-treaters a letter highlighting the dangers of obesity.

To make matters worse, the unidentified woman won't be handing out the letter to every child, just the ones she deems to be overweight.

The letter states, "you (sic) child is, in my opinion, moderately obese and should not be consuming sugar and treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season."

USA Today spoke to a North Dakota State University assistant professor of clinical psychology who believes that the letter could be more emotionally damaging than helpful.
