MIAMI -

Zoo Miami has named a black baby rhinoceros born May 25 Aria.

Aria is the 13th successful black rhino birth at Zoo Miami.

The female rhino weighed more than 100 pounds at birth, and was born after an approximately 15-month gestation period.

Aria's mother is 14-year-old Circe, who was born at the Riverbanks Zoo, and her father is 14-year-old Eddie, who was born at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Black rhinos are critically endangered as poachers continue to target them in Eastern and Southern Africa. At one time there were about 100,000 black rhinos in the wild, and currently there is an estimated 5,000 in the wild.
