Surprise! Pet dogs are bears

Man finds his pets are actually endangered animals, Daily Mail reports

A Chinese man had a big surprise when he found his pet dogs were actually two black bears, Britain's Daily Mail reported.

The paper said Wang Kayui, from the village of Yunnan, bought the cubs two years ago from a Vietnamese man.

It wasn't until he read some conservation leaflets that he found out the animals were actually endangered species, according to the People's Daily Online.

Wang said the cubs were well behaved and had healthy appetites. But as they grew up, they started looking less and less like dogs, the Daily Mail reported. They even ate Wang's pet chickens.

After finding out they were endangered, he decided to contact local authorities and have the animals re-homed.

They were eventually taken to the Yunnan Wild Animal Rescue Center, the Daily Mail said.

A spokesman for the center said the animals have been identified as Asian black bears.

According to the Daily Mail, they are classified as "vulnerable" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
