Voters trying to cast their ballots early in Hollywood run into parking problems, and some leave after being ticketed.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -

Voters trying to cast their ballots early in Hollywood ran into parking problems on Thursday, and some left after being ticketed.

"Today, it's pathetic," said Quinton Cortes.

Hundreds of voters drove to the Hollywood Branch Library at 2600 Hollywood Boulevard only to find few parking spots available.

"It's impossible. There's no parking anywhere," said another voter.

"Parking is terrible right now at city hall. People can't find a parking space," said Peter Hernandez, a candidate for Hollywood City Commission. "They're parking on the grass, parking wherever they can."

Cortes, who is handicap, said he usually doesn't have trouble finding a spot.

"How many times have you gone around?" asked Local 10's Sasha Andrade.

"About nine times," replied Cortes.

The city allowed people to park in the grass in no parking zones, but did hand out several parking tickets and warnings.

"In only the most egregious of examples where they were blocking, obviously blocking the right of way, were they cited for illegal parking," said Jaime Hernandez with the City of Hollywood.

While many were frustrated with the parking problems, voters also admitted that seeing a large crowd at the polls was good.

"It shows people care," said one voter.

In Tamarac, some early voter who parked outside the Casa Linda Plaza across the street from the Tamarac Branch Library had their cars towed.

Both the chairman of Florida's Democratic Party and former state Senator Dan Gelber asked Florida Gov. Rick Scott to extend the early voting to Sunday.
