PINECREST, Fla. -

President Barack Obama left South Florida on Thursday night after first driving in tens of thousands of dollars for the Democratic Party at two private fundraisers.

In the middle of all the protests, protection and traffic problems, families watched from the streets and captured images from their cars.

Obama arrived at two separate fundraisers Thursday. One fundraiser took place at the Pinecrest home of retired Miami Heat star Alonzo Mourning.

Supporters also included House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz -- attendees paying $32,000 a couple to see them all.

Earlier in the day in central Florida, Obama argued that women need better educational opportunities.

Obama has been focusing on women's economic issues in this midterm election year. He focused on higher education in a visit Thursday to Orlando's Valencia College.

Earlier, Obama announced tougher economic sanctions against Russia.

"Russia must know that further escalation will only isolate it further from the international community," said Obama.

Both are exactly what working woman and Ukrainian-American Julia Forest wanted to hear from the president.

"I believe what he is doing is appropriate and the we hope that the effort will continue," said Forest.

Obama continued Thursday night to gain not just money, but a wealth of supporters from South Florida.

"I believe it is the right step. It is certainly a step in the right direction," said Forest.

This is Obama's second visit to South Florida in March.
