MIAMI -

University of Miami running back Mike James and FIU running back Kedrick Rhodes have been named candidates for the Doak Walker Award. The award is given annually to the nation's top running back.

James has played in every game (38) since joining the Hurricanes and scored eight touchdowns last season.

A second-team All-Sun Belt Conference pick last season, Rhodes is the only returning rusher in the league to record a 1,000-plus yard season in 2011.

The award, in its 23nd year, is named for SMU’s three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
