1945: Hall of Fame basketball coach Pat Riley, who led the Los Angeles Lakers to four NBA titles in the 1980s and won another in 2006 with the Miami Heat, is born in Rome, New York. Riley also played in the NBA with the San Diego Rockets, Lakers and Phoenix Suns, helping the Lakers to a NBA championship as a player in 1972. A two-sport star while in college at the University of Kentucky, he was also named the SEC Player of the Year his junior year and was drafted in both the NBA and NFL.

In response to Celtics President of Basketball Operations, Danny Ainge's criticism of Heat star LeBron James, Heat President Pat Riley said,

"Danny Ainge needs to shut the f--- up and manage his own team.  He was the biggest whiner going when he was a player.  I know that because I coached against him."

Ainge characterized James as a complainer following James comments after Miami's loss in chicago. The Heat star spoke out about some of the hard fouls that he's been taking on the court.

The Heat have confirmed this statement.
