D.J. Durkin to coach Gators in bowl game

Defensive coordinator to serve as interim head coach

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin will serve as interim head coach for the Gators in a bowl game.

The school announced Saturday that Durkin would coach the Gators in whatever postseason game they land after Florida's 52-3 victory against Eastern Kentucky made them bowl-eligible.

Durkin came to Florida in 2010 to serve as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator under Urban Meyer. He was promoted to defensive coordinator this season after Dan Quinn left for the Seattle Seahawks.

Florida announced last Sunday that it will part ways with fourth-year head coach Will Muschamp at the end of the regular season.

Muschamp will coach his final game Saturday when the Gators visit top-ranked and undefeated Florida State in Tallahassee.

The Gators are guaranteed to finish the regular season with a winning record after their home opener against Idaho was canceled because of weather.
