The Seminoles finished last season as the nation's only undefeated team, finishing with a 14-0 record and their third national championship behind Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jameis Winston.

FSU hasn't opened a season ranked No. 1 in either major poll since 1999. The Seminoles went on to win the national championship that season.

Alabama is second, followed by Oklahoma, Oregon and Auburn, which FSU defeated 34-31 in the final BCS National Championship game.

Ohio State, UCLA, Michigan State, South Carolina and Baylor complete the top 10.

Clemson (No. 16) and North Carolina (No. 23) join FSU as the only other Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the preseason poll.

The Southeastern Conference leads all schools with seven teams. Georgia is No. 12, LSU is one spot behind at No. 13, Ole Miss is No. 19 and Texas A&M is No. 20.

This is the first year of the new four-team College Football Playoff.
