FSU wins series, but Miami shuts out Seminoles in finale

Hurricanes win 12-0 Sunday; Seminoles prevail Friday, Saturday

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami overcame a disastrous Saturday night performance and a 17-inning battle Friday night to defeat Florida State in the series finale Sunday, shutting out the Seminoles and avoiding a sweep by its state rival.

All nine starters for the Hurricanes recorded at least one hit in Sunday's 12-0 victory.

Miami (31-13, 16-8 ACC), ranked No. 6 in the Collegiate Baseball poll, outhit the Seminoles 18-7 and plated runs in each of the first five innings, including four home runs by different players.

"This is a crazy game," head coach Jim Morris said. "It's amazing, from one day to the next, how this game can change, from one side to the other side."

Florida State (33-13, 16-8 ACC) fell behind 2-0 Saturday night, but the Seminoles took control with five runs in the third inning and seven more in the fourth to take a commanding 11-2 lead en route to a 15-5 victory.

Miami rallied to tie Friday's opening game of the series on four different occasions, including three times in extra innings, but the Seminoles ultimately prevailed in an 8-7 win. It was the longest game in the history of the series.

Despite losing the series, the Hurricanes remain in sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division.

The Seminoles are second behind Louisville in the Atlantic Division.
