Jameis Winston says he's 'best player' in NFL Draft

2013 Heisman Trophy winner throws for NFL scouts on FSU's pro day

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston wants everyone to know why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should select with him with the top pick in next month's NFL Draft.

"Because I'm the best player in the draft," Winston told reporters Tuesday at the conclusion of Florida State's pro day.

The 2013 Heisman Trophy winner said he felt at ease during his audition in front of NFL scouts and prepared for it as he would before a game.

Winston said he thought he did "great on every throw."

As for the draft process, Winston said he has treated the past few months as a "huge job interview" and a chance for him to meet "eye to eye" with others about his character.

Winston called it an "enjoyable process" and said he was excited to be around his former teammates again.

"Every football field is my sanctuary," Winston said. "The locker room is my sanctuary. Football is my sanctuary."

Winston is widely projected to be selected No. 1 overall.
