Writer punished for giving away vote

MIAMI – ESPN's Dan Le Batard has lost his Hall of Fame vote.

The former Miami Herald writer gave his vote away to the website deadspin.

Le Batard allowed fans to cast his ballot.

On Thursday, Le Batard tweeted "Max penalty: BBWAA just lifetime banned me from Hall of Fame vote and won't allow me to attend a game as a credentialed media for a year."

A short time later, Le Batard tweeted, "Correction: I can be credentialed but can't vote on awards and my card revoked for constitutional max of one year."

The writer and radio host was trying to make a point about Hall of Fame balloting.

There are some writers who refuse to vote in players from the steroid era.

Le Batard's actions set off a firestorm of controversy.
