Miami Dolphins give thanks at practice, continue fight for playoffs

Players say fight won't be easy, but confident they will prevail

DAVIE, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins were giving thanks for a great season so far at practice Thursday, and aren't letting Thanksgiving Day slow them down in their fight for a spot in the NFL playoffs.

"We were in the hunt last year as well, so it is a familiar situation," said Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes.

This year, the team is extra focused and ready to make a run at the playoffs.

"It didn't end how we wanted it to end last year, so we get another opportunity to handle this one a little better and that's what we are trying to do," said Grimes.

The Fins take on the New York Jets in their next game Monday night at MetLife Stadium.

"We are not expecting anything easy," said Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace. "We know it is going to be a dog fight. We are 6 and 5. You never know. We have to go out here, and play as hard as we can and get this win."

But before these guys take the field, it's all about giving thanks.

"I'm just thankful for the opportunity to keep starting and I'm just out here doing my job," said Dolphins center Samson Satele.

"My family. My wife, and son, and you know, playing in the NFL," said Grimes.

Even head coach Joe Philbin took a break from the X's and O's in practice to remember what he's thankful for.

"I'm definitely going to hang out with my family," said Philbin. "Take a look at practice tape and make whatever corrections we need to make."

In the NFL, there are no guarantees, which is why the Fins are thankful to be in a position to make a run at the playoffs.

"Every single one of us who works for the Miami Dolphins has a lot to be thankful for," said Philbin. "We have a wonderful profession and get to play the game we love. Me and the coaches get to coach the game we love."
