MIAMI – The Miami Marlins congratulated former teammate Josh Beckett early Wednesday morning following the announcement of his retirement.
The Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander said he is retiring due to health issues after the Dodgers were eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Tuesday night. Beckett will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip.

Beckett was named MVP at age 23, when he helped the Marlins win the World Series in 2003.
The Marlins posted a photo of teammates holding up Beckett after the big win with the caption, "A moment that will last forever. Congratulations on a great career! #FarewellJosh."
