Professor Will's report card

MIAMI ā€“ The Dolphins season is over. They were officially eliminated from the playoffs with their loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.

For the 2nd straight week, Miami was absolutely embarrassed in a game where a win would get them into the postseason. That is simply unacceptable, and someone will likely pay with their job.

Whether that's head coach Joe Philbin or general manager Jeff Ireland or offensive coordinator Mike Sherman or a combination of all three, something has to give.

Last week I gave this entire team a big "F" for every category, and I'll do the same this week. You just can't excuse a team that had so much on the line in a home game and still managed to blow it.

The offense did almost nothing for the 2nd straight week, and this time Ryan Tannehill threw three interceptions and over threw a wide open Mike Wallace. That play seemed to change the tide of what had been a Dolphins lead. Sherman's offense has been just awful the last two weeks, and it will likely cost him his job.

Meanwhile, the defense made Jets rookie QB Geno Smith look like Joe Montana at times. The former Miramar stand out was on fire from the 2nd quarter on. The Dolphins defense couldn't create a turnover from a player who had the 2nd most turnovers in the NFL this season. Again, like so many things the Dolphins have done in the last couple of games, that's unacceptable.

So, the Dolphins get a big "F" for this game and the entire season. 8-8 isn't progress after going 7-9 last season. That's mediocrity. Or pretty much what Dolphins football has been over the last decade.

Take a hint, Stephen Ross. The fans deserve better.
