Randy Shannon to become linebackers coach at Florida

Multiple reports say former Miami head coach will join Gators staff

PEMBBROKE PARK, Fla. – Former Miami head football coach Randy Shannon is coming home -- in a way -- to join the new coaching staff at Florida, according to multiple reports.

Shannon is expected to become linebackers coach for the Gators under new head coach Jim McElwain, who was hired earlier this month to replace Will Muschamp.

It is a lateral move for Shannon, who spent the past two seasons as linebackers coach at Arkansas.

Shannon was head coach of the Hurricanes from 2007-10, compiling a 28-22 record at his alma mater. He returned to coaching after a one-year absence in 2012, when he joined the staff at TCU.

Shannon, the Miami-born starting linebacker for the Hurricanes' 1987 national championship team, is expected to help with recruiting in South Florida.
