Tannenbaum is currently an agent representing coaches, but has also been serving as an advisor to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.

The team's general manager Dennis Hickey will report directly to Tannenbaum, but will retain control of the Dolphins' 53-man roster. Head coach Joe Philbin will still report to Ross.

"I am excited that Mike Tannenbaum has joined the organization full time," Ross said. "He is an experienced executive and leader that understands all facets of the sports landscape. During his time as a consultant this past season, I was able to see his impact first hand through his commitment and passion for innovation and using every possible avenue to find competitive edges."

During his time as general manager with the Jets, the team reached the AFC Championship Game in 2009 and 2010.

Tannebaum's new role with the team will begin on February 1.
