South Florida fans disappointed in Alex Rodriguez

MLB suspends Rodriguez for involvement in Biogenesis case

MIAMI – Some South Florida baseball fans expressed their disappointment in Alex Rodriguez, who Major League Baseball suspended through 2014 for his involvement in a drug case.

"I think now after they set this example today, I think it's going to make a turn for the better now," said Miguel Quintana, who owns Sluggers in Miami. "I think it's a step in the right direction to clean the game up, especially in the younger generation, the youth, making sure they understand that it's going to take a lot of hard work."

Rodriguez played high school baseball at Westminster Christian School. He has donated millions to the University of Miami and Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade.

"He's a great role model for the kids here because he's one of the kids who came out of Miami," said Manny Ojedo, a trainer at Sluggers. "I think when he got there (the majors), the expectations were so high -- some people always do whatever it takes to get to the next level."

Young players training at Sluggers said they'd avoid using performance-enhancing drugs.

"If you want to be something, you fight for it. You don't cheat on it," said Harold Alfonso. "Because he does it doesn't mean you have to do it."

"As long as I keep in my mind that I'm not going to do it," added Eddie Sieorra. "Just say no."
