South Floridians celebrate USA advancing to knockout stage

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā€“ Fans from across South Florida celebrated the U.S. advancing to the knockout stage of the World Cup despite the team's loss to Germany.

A crowd gathered at Mickey Byrne's Irish Pub to cheer on the team.

"Germany came out to win, but we believed in ourselves," said Mariano Silva. He thanked Portugal for beating Ghana and allowing for the U.S. to move past the group stage.

"People love to talk trash, but USA all the way," added RJ Sonbak.

A few people in the crowd admitted they called in sick or decided at the last-minute to take the day off to watch the game.

"I believe," said one soccer fan who raced back to work after taking an extremely long lunch to watch the match.
