Slugger wants to be back this season

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is recovering after being hit in the face by a pitch.

MIAMI – Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is eyeing a possible return this season.

A report by Major League Baseball's website indicates that Stanton underwent a checkup in Miami on Tuesday.

He had several checkups to determine when he can come back after getting in the face by a fastball last Thursday.

Stanton suffered multiple facial fractures and lacerations requiring more than 20 stitches and several lost teeth.

Stanton posted a picture of himself on Instagram showing a before and after his injury.

He also thanked his fans for their support.
