Thousands of people run and walk at the annual Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale Race for the Cure

MIAMI – Bayfront Park turned into a sea of pink as thousands of people flooded into downtown Miami for the 18th annual Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale Race for the Cure.

More than 20,000 people are taking part in the 5K walk and run, and thousands more just showed up to watch the event, which includes a one-mile fun run and a tot run for children ages 2-7.

The race began with a Survivor Procession and Ceremony where cancer survivors took the stage to honor those who have won the battle against the disease.

The Miami/Fort Lauderdale Komen chpater has raised more than $12 million for breast cancer treatment and research since 1996.
