MIAMI -

On this date, the coldest December weather to date of the 20th century hit the South on this date in 1962. Jacksonville, Fla. recorded a low of 12 degrees, while Tampa, Fla. bottomed out at 35 degrees (both records). Blairsville, Ga. set a state record low for the month of December with 9 degrees.
