Storm damages horse canopy at Tomorrow's Rainbow

Storm brings hail, rain, wind gusts

SOUTH FLORIDA – The leading edge of a spring storm that rolled through South Florida Thursday afternoon brought pea-sized hail, blinding rain and tropical storm force gusts.

"It really did look like a tornado to us," said Abbey Mosher, who runs Tomorrow's Rainbow in Coconut Creek.

The non-profit support center for children has 11 miniature horses that help children who have lost a loved one cope with loss.

"A horse actually has the ability to mirror human behavior," said Mosher.

The storm ripped apart the steel-framed canopy that covered the horses stalls, leaving them without shelter.

"Well, unfortunately the horses are homeless," said Mosher. "They are displaced as well. We have to discontinue our services right now so we can't offer grief counseling for the children right now."

Patriot Insurance Group donated $20,000 to the organization Friday.

"This is like above and beyond," said Mosher. "It's like a dream come true."

In Pompano Beach, clean-up crews cleared nearly a dozen trees uprooted in the gusty winds.

At Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport, those same winds tossed small planes into each other, damaging wings on several of the planes.
