Chantal sets Port Condition X-RAY in U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico

Condition requires some precautions

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Due to incoming Tropical Storm Chantal, Capt. David Flaherty of the Coast Guard set Port Condition X-RAY for all ports in U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico at 6 p.m. Monday.

While all waterfront facility and vessel transits may occur during Port Condition X-RAY, should the condition change to YANKEE, all inbound vessels will be advised to seek alternate destination.

Flaherty does anticipate that the condition will change to YANKEE in this area in the next 12 hours if the track for Chantal remains as forecasted.

Pleasure craft operators are urged to seek safe harbor, and owners of large boats are urged to move boats to inland marinas where they will be less likely to break free.

All trailer able boats should be stored in a place that is not prone to flooding, and those leaving boats in water are told to secure life rings, jackets and small boats.

All flying debris, hazardous materials and pollutants should be removed from waterfront facilities.

Flaherty may require additional precautions to ensure the safety of the ports and waterways as Tropical Storm Chantal approaches.
