SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The U.S. Coast Guard said it opened the ports in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the northern coast of Puerto Rico at 6 p.m. Saturday following the passing of Tropical Storm Bertha through the area.
The ports may resume normal operations during Port Condition Four, including waterfront facility and boat transits, subject to prudent seamanship and safe working practices, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The southern ports of Puerto Rico, which include Yabucoa, Guayama, Salinas/Aguirre, Ponce, Tallaboa, Guanica, Guayanilla and Mayaguez, will remain closed under Port Condtion ZULU until the completion of Coast Guard port assessments and final determination from the Coast Guard Captain of the Port, officials said.
Coast Guard Port Assessment Teams will continue to monitor the weather and stand ready to conduct port assessments in the southern ports of Puerto Rico as soon as the weather permits, authorities said.
