Homeless shelters seek coats, blankets

Temperatures forecast to be in upper 30s

SOUTH FLORIDA – The Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers are asking for coats and blankets to help people stay warm during the upcoming cold snap.

Temperatures are forecast to be in the 40s overnight. Broward County issued a cold weather advisory until 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Drop-off locations include:
Miami Rescue Mission - 2020 NW 1st Avenue Miami, FL 33127
Broward Outreach Center Hollywood - 2056 Scott Street Hollywood, FL 33020
Broward Outreach Center Pompano - 1700 Blount Road Pompano Beach, FL 33069

"On our Miami Campus, we are expecting an extra 75-80 homeless and needy men and women," said Miami Centers Programs Director Antonio Villasuso. "I encourage people to help donate blankets and jackets."

People can also report to other Broward County shelters by 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The shelter and pickup locations are at:
Pompano Beach City Hall - 100 W. Atlantic Boulevard (pickup only)
Salvation Army - 1445 W. Broward Boulevard (pickup and shelter)
Broward Outreach Center Hollywood - 2056 Scott Street (shelter)

Additionally, Florida Power & Light plans to have extra crews available in case of outages.
