Computer models in better agreement about shift far from South Fla.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A tropical disturbance brewing in the Caribbean Sea has a high chance of becoming the next named storm.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are calling for an 80 percent chance for development in the next five days.

Local 10 News meteorologist Jennifer Correa said Friday the system was impacting the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, bringing heavy rains and gusty winds.

By late Friday or Saturday morning, it could become a tropical depression or tropical storm.

Correa said the system was likely to intensify over the warm water of the Caribbean.

The good news for South Florida is that computer models are in better agreement that it will track to the north-northwest and then take a turn to the north far away from land.

The next named storm would be Cristobal.
