Woman gives birth on hospital lobby floor

Mother delivers baby on lobby floor at Jackson South Community Hospital

MIAMI – When Susana Privada came to Jackson South Community Hospital just before 7 a.m. Wednesday, she knew she wouldn't make it to the delivery room.

Surveillance video shows Privada stop by the front desk for a quick checkup, when she feels something is not right.

"I could feel the baby coming," Privada said. "All I could do was drop to the lobby floor."

Privada dropped to the floor, maternity was called out but the baby wasn't about to wait.

Surveillance video shows Privada lie down on the floor. That's where the baby was born, with the help of her stunned father, Carlos Saravia, and Jackson South surgigal nurse Libardo Lozano, who was just reporting for work.

"My first impression and reaction was to go and see what you need," Lozano said. "She said to me, 'Well, I'm having a baby.'"

Lozano delivered his first baby, Dayana, - a 6 pound, 8 ounce baby girl.

"I started cleaning the eyes, mouth and on the butt - hey, come on, the baby starts crying and it was happy," said Lozano.

Both Mom and baby are healthy and have one heck of a story to tell the little one when she grows up.

She is so beautiful," Privada said.
